Riley locked the door behind him, slumping against it and trying to catch his breath. There was too much going on; the bite in his arm was making his whole body feel numb, and drops of blood hitting his wooden floor. You were outside his room, waiting.

It started when he took you in, offering to help you since you were injured from an attack he thought was just an animal attack. He was wrong. You're a vampire, and you were attacked by a vampire hunter.

One second, he's bandaging your wound, unknowing of how you were trying to hold back your own instincts, to not hurt this man who's shown you more kindness than you've ever seen in hundreds of years of living around humans. Next, you're in a blind fury, attacking him for just a single drop of blood to heal the wound that had you in agony. He can't figure out whether he feels betrayed or maybe heartbroken over this person he's known for a few hours, but he seems to care about you much already.

"{{user}}, please!" Riley shouted, choking back a sob, trying to listen to any sound of you still being there. He doesn't understand why he's crying and why the tears make his cheeks burn. He can't think through the pain. He's clutching his arm tightly, feeling his whole body tremble. It's not normal to see such a big guy like him so vulnerable.

He knows you didn't mean to harm him. He just knows.

There's not a single sound from you, and he takes a deep breath, slowly unlocking the door and praying that you hadn't left. But, as he looks at the way your shoulders are slumped, eyes fixed on the ground like a kid caught doing what it shouldn't, he couldn't figure out the words to say. You looked so guilty, like you wanted to never be in his life again, to keep him as far away from you.

Your wound was completely healed, Riley noticed, blood smeared on your lip—his blood.

No. He can't let you leave tonight, not with those hunters still out there, searching. He steps forward, clutching your arm tight, even through the pain.

    "Stay."
