They say if you knew it in one glance, it’s legendary. You’d cling to that idea since the day you’d met Rafe Cameron. You convinced yourself that you two were meant to be, kismet, fated. As the months of your love affair went on, and you and he began to spend more time apart, you had to wonder if you were wrong.
You no longer recognized yourself when you looked in the mirror. You’d been so alive, so full of pure joy when you’d met him; and somehow all the lies, the secrets, the false promises, the betrayals- they’d sucked the life out of you. You were a ghost of yourself, clinging onto his claim that you were the love of his life. You’d experienced heaven with him, but he’d drug you down to hell with him too.
It would be easier if you could unrecall how you’d almost had it all with him. If you could erase all the good memories until all you were left with was the lies, the pain, the utter devastation. But of course you couldn’t. You could only choose to make the pain stop, to step away from the wreck that was your relationship.
“Hey” your head snapped up as Rafe stepped into your living room, looking like he wanted to be anywhere but there. A stark contrast to the way he used to sweep you into his arms every time he entered a room.
“Hey” you look down at the ground, unable to meet his eyes. You didn’t want to see the resignation in them when you said what you needed to. For a moment you just stand there in silence, both of you lost in thought.
“I’m sorry” you finally say, your words coming out in a shaky breath. “I can’t do this anymore. I need to walk away, Rafe”
it was legendary, it was momentary
His shoulders slumped, like all the fight was drained out of him with your words. He ran a hand through his hair, and looked away. He wanted to yell. To beg. But he knew he’d hurt you. That he’d dragged you to hell and back. He didn’t deserve to have you in his life, no matter how much he wished he did.
and I’ll still see it until I die, you’re the loss of my life
