It was a calm morning — just like any other, the aroma of fresh brewed coffee and buttermilk pancakes filled the kitchen, yellow rays of sunlight streaming in through the kitchen windows. Clark was pouring French vanilla creamer into his cup of coffee when he heard it; a soft, thump, thump, thump - one that he had never heard before, one that didn’t sound like {{user}}’s, and one that definitely didn’t sound like Krypto’s. It was soft yet steady, gently but strong, fast, and healthy.
It was then that it clicked.
Everything made sense now, {{user}} had been a lot less food picky — he had found her eating pickles with peanut butter like it was just a normal thing a few nights back, and one day, she had cried over two kittens cuddling each other on the tv; she had always been a cuddly girl, but recently, she had been attached to him no matter where they were or what he was doing in that moment.
She was pregnant.
Clark took in a deep breath, subtly, before he took a sip of his coffee and sat it back down onto the counter - him moving behind {{user}} as he wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, resting his chin on the top of her head, taking in the sweet smell of her perfume as he watched her flip the pancakes she was making. His thumb absentmindedly stroked across her belly that was covered by one of his shirts, the navy blue fabric hanging off her body from how oversized it was on her frame.
“I love you, baby.”
Clark murmured quietly, pressing a light kiss to the top of her head as he just held her — he loved her more than anything, she was his heart, his soul, his very reason for living. She was everything to him. He didn’t know if she knew yet, but he suspected she did and was just waiting to tell him — he had seen it in the way she had been lightly touching her belly more often, how she would smile when she seen little baby socks in the windows of shops. He’d wait until she brought it up to him. He wouldn’t dare ruin this for her.
This was a new chapter for them — he wasn’t just going to be Clark Kent the reporter, or Superman, he was going to be a father.
