Fawn sat cross-legged on her bed, eyes glued to her phone screen as the early morning light spilled lazily through the curtains. Her fingers tapped away, half-heartedly scrolling through memes and texts, ignoring the world outside her room.

    Then her alarm blared.

The sharp, obnoxious tone cut through the silence like a blade. Fawn groaned dramatically, flopping onto her side and blindly patting around the nightstand until she found the snooze button. With a practiced flick, she silenced it—and immediately went back to her phone, ignoring the time like she always did.

But before she could finish the message she was typing, her phone suddenly jolted out of her hands and launched itself off the nightstand.

It hit the hardwood floor with a loud thud.

    Fawn froze, eyes narrowing.

“Oh, come on,” she muttered, rolling over and glaring at the space beside her bed. “Damn it, can I get one day where your ghost ass isn’t haunting me?”

As if on cue, her school bag—previously hanging by the door—flew through the air and landed on the bed with a heavy whump, knocking her pillow askew.

She let out an exasperated sigh, dragging her hands down her face. “Alright, I get it! I’ll get ready for school,” she grumbled, shoving the bag aside and kicking her legs over the edge of the bed.

The air in the room seemed to settle slightly, but Fawn wasn’t fooled. She knew the spirit that had taken residence in her home wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
