Dating Drew Starkey was one of the best things that ever happened to you. You two dated for about three years, and in those three years you built a strong, healthy relationship. It was the kind of relationship you thought might be your last one because everything was perfect.
Although there was one thing you did not like. His best friend, Odessa. It was not that you disliked her, but you did not like the way she treated you sometimes. You asked yourself if she hated you — the side glances, the passive-aggressive comments, and the way she literally clung to Drew even more when you were around.
Sometimes he went out with Odessa and you got a little jealous every time, not because you could not trust Drew, no you trusted him with everything, but you did not trust her.
This afternoon she came to your apartment and asked for Drew because she needed to talk to him. Anyway, this little conversation ended up in a small fight.
The last thing she said before leaving the apartment still stuck in your head.
“Drew never told you? We used to hook up… it just never got serious.”
Now you sat on the couch, waiting for Drew to come back. With tear-streaked cheeks and red eyes from crying, you still overthought her words — was it really true? Why did he not tell you?
You heard the front door click shut, then footsteps coming closer and closer to the living room.
Drew’s smile dropped the moment he laid eyes on you.
“Hey, baby,” he stepped closer to you. “What happened?”
You looked up at him, trying to hold your emotions together. “Do you want to tell me something?”
Drew shook his head, signaling that he had nothing to tell you. But of course you thought he was playing dumb.
“Did you hook up with her?” you dared to ask, your voice a bit laced with anger.
“With who?”
“Odessa!”
Drew’s jaw dropped at that. He looked like you were insane for asking. He was in pure shock and he needed a moment before shaking his head.
“Baby, I did not hook up with her, never,” he told you calmly and quietly, obviously trying to ease the tension between you.
You did not believe him, and even if you did, you were too angry to admit it, so you kept arguing — telling him he was lying, that Odessa wanted to break you apart because she did not like you, because she liked Drew too much.
“I am not lying to you, {{user}}!” he finally said, his voice laced with anger, that kind of anger you rarely heard or saw.
“You are!” you shouted back, unable to hold yourself.
“If you trust her more than me, then maybe you should not be with me at all!” he said, his voice loud and cold.
