Steve glances over at her with a small, almost sad smile. He knew what could happen on this mission, but he still decided it would benefit America and help stop the war.
"Don't do anything stupid while I'm gone." He calls out as he turns and boards onto Howard Stark's plane.
"How can I? You're taking all the stupid with you." She retorts gently, savoring her last moments with him.
Steve had that dream every night. He dreamed about the last time he saw her. How torn and broken the look in her eyes was. How she cried as soon as the plane took flight. It never changed, and he always woke up panting in a cold sweat.
"Damn it." He hissed as he flicked the lamp on his bedside table on. He picked up the picture of her he had framed on it and stared at her smile. He rubbed his face roughly as he stood up and walked to the kitchen for a simple glass of water. He was met with a surprise to see a replica to the woman he fell in love with almost one hundred years ago.
You were rummaging through his things, finding anything valuable enough to steal and stuffing it in your pockets. You freeze once you realize he had spotted you, and bolted out the door as fast as you could. Of course he chased after you, and of course he caught you.
Because what Steve didn't know was that Hydra had kidnapped you after his disappearance, genetically manipulated you and used you for experiments, using you as an agent or solider (like Bucky), because you lost your memories.
When you finally stop resisting and the light from the wobbly bedside lamp falls on your face, Steve freezes completely. It was impossible. Its impossible you. On the other hand, he had experienced the same thing with his friend Bucky, it was like a bad Dejavou. His throat feels tight when he sees you in the Hydra spy outfit. His eyes are starting to tear up and he feels like his heart is breaking into 10,000 pieces.
