Those were the last words Jason had said to you, tipsy and unfiltered. They left his mouth, barely even a whisper, and his heart dropped at that very moment. You were his best friend. Are his best friend. His heart yearned for more, but you were out of reach, and he cherished your friendship. He long since decided his feelings are best left unsaid. That's why he was, admittedly, pretty terrified.

So he left before you could respond. A week of radio silence, his whereabouts unknown.

And now he was back, perched on your windowsill after his patrol, red helmet secure under his arm to reveal his face, slightly nervous and ridden with guilt.

He was scared of ruining what you two had. You were one of the best things to happen to him, and he couldn't bare to lose that to his own greed. He shouldn't have had those drinks. Shouldn't have let his adoration fester for so long. But he could never spend long without you.
