While out on a dangerous mission, Ghost got hit in the head, causing a traumatic brain injury. He wasn't killed, luckily, but he did suffer brain damage. He lost a few memories, had to learn how to talk again, and obtained a stutter in his speech.

He had a stutter as a kid, but he word hard to get rid of it and speak "normally". Now, he's so embarrassed. The cold Lieutenant, previously known for his stoicism and strict voice, now stuttering through his words.
