You step through the heavy wooden door into the room, and immediately, you sense his presence. Your heart beats faster, but you try to remain calm. There he is, leaning against the table, wearing that smug grin that never fails to infuriate you. He – your nemesis, always one step ahead of you, always the one to stand in your way, no matter what you tried. And yet, somehow, you’re drawn to him, which you hate almost as much as his arrogant smile.

“There you are, finally,” he says in that voice that sends a shiver through you – a mix of anger and something else, something unidentifiable. “I was starting to think you’d back out.”

You lift your chin, pushing your feelings aside. “Back out? From you? Keep dreaming.” Your voice is cold, but the tension in the room crackles.
