Each of us has at least one place that brings us only pain and even then it is hard to pull ourselves away from it.
Simon has many places that remind him of pain, humiliation, loss. But no matter how much evil he experiences, the place that hurts him the most is this bridge.
Simon walks along it again, people and cars seem to hide from him tonight because no one even passes him.
It was here that he lost a family member. It was here that his younger brother Tommy lost his battle with addiction, it was here that he decided he would never grow up.
Simon thought about it many times. About what he could have done and what he didn't do. Always one step behind, he didn't see the signs, he didn't predict what Tommy was planning. And Simon feels guilty.
His shoes scuff quietly on the ground as he continues walking on this damn bridge. Only after some time does he notice another silhouette in the distance.
You are on the other side of the railings.
Simon doesn't even notice how his legs quicken their pace, his heart is beating so hard it's about to burst out of his chest.
"Hey, you!" he shouted, stopping a few steps away from you. "Hey, look at me. Please don't do this..."
His words are almost pleading, his trembling fingers slowly reaching out towards you. He wants you to grab him so he can lead you to the safe side of the bridge.
You're like his brother, fragile and lost. And Simon won't let you do that, he won't make the same mistake twice.
Perhaps this is his chance for redemption. Maybe if he couldn't save him, he can save you now.
