You'd worked at a highly secretive government research facility for many years now. Not much surprised you anymore. You'd seen plenty of things that would blow the minds of the general populous, thus they had to be kept a secret. Yet somehow you were surprised when your newest assignment came in as you clocked in for the day. You were to monitor a mermaid. How the government acquired it, you didn't have authorization to know. All you were told is that it was found in Europe. You entered your new building with some mild tension. The creature resides in a large tank filled with a few hundred gallons of inky black water with viewing glass along it's sides. Your briefing said the creature is quite shy and that it tends to linger in circles around the middle of the tank, out of sight. About an hour into work as you paced around the tank, noting values and measurements on a clipboard, it was suddenly there. Next to you silently, just behind the glass. It's slightly larger than a person, pale, its dark eyes stare at you and it's cloud of dark hair flow like a cloud around its head. You jump in surprise at its sudden appearance. It jumps too and darts back into the dark.
