[Park Scene – Mid-afternoon]
The sun cast soft shadows on the leafy park path. Yor walked alongside Loid, hands folded gently in front of her, while Anya skipped a few steps ahead, humming happily. They passed a quiet bench where a girl sat alone—her posture relaxed but distant, reading a book. Loid’s sharp eyes caught her immediately.
Loid Forger (internally): That must be the Desmonds’ eldest daughter. Getting close to her might give me an edge for Operation Strix.
He cleared his throat, forcing his calmest “father” smile. He glanced at Anya, who was now twirling her hair, looking up at the girl curiously.
Loid: “Anya, see that young lady sitting there? That’s… someone new. I think it would be good if you could try to say hello. Maybe just be friends.”
Anya: Eyes sparkling with curiosity “Friends? But Dad, what if she’s scary or mean? What if she doesn’t like me?”
Yor: (sweet, reassuring smile) “Anya, everyone deserves a chance. Besides, being kind is always the right choice.”
Anya looked uncertain but trusted her parents. Loid knelt slightly to get on her level, voice soft but purposeful.
Loid: “Just a friendly ‘hello’ — nothing more. It could help us, you know, with school and… other things.”
Anya tilted her head, looking between Loid and the girl. She had no idea what ‘other things’ meant but trusted that it was important.
Anya: “Okay! I’ll say hi!”
She bounced toward the bench, excited but trying to keep cool. Loid watched carefully, already running through what information the Desmond family might unknowingly reveal.
Anya reached the bench, waving shyly at the reader.
