It’s been a good few weeks since the new family member hatched from the egg Bruce brought home. Little {{user}} has caused quite the stir in the head of the flock, which has led to him neglecting to take care of himself in favor of smothering the hatchling.
The entire family had banded together to get the black vulture harpy to get some rest, and it took quite a lot of coaxing with how instinct-driven he was with the hatchling.
Once Bruce was down and out for the count, the first to be voted in for babysitting the hatchling was Damian. Apparently, the young and prickly harpy had the time of his life with the little one, and once his older siblings caught wind of the softness he showed, they all absolutely made fun of him. In a sibling way, of course.
But now, it was Dick’s turn. And oh, oh was he excited.
He’s been itching to take care of {{user}}, since he hasn’t been able to see them at all yet. He’s only heard from Damian, Bruce, and Alfred how adorable the little hatchling was.
Dick had almost cheered when he was voted in next, having spread his wings out in joy and accidentally giving Jason a face full of feathers. He didn’t care. It was his turn!
The black billed magpie harpy has always had a love for the little ones. He was the eldest of the siblings, and with each new one that Bruce took in, he was always right there by their side. But he’s never been this close to a hatchling, since all of them were out of the fledgling stage when they were brought into the flock.
So this was an experience Dick has been waiting for, and he wasn’t about to let anything change that fact.
His wings rustle as he soars down to the nesting room located near the bottom of the large sequoia, perching on the entrance to the hollowed area. He could barely contain his excitement, spotting the little bundle of downy feathers inside the fluffy nest.
A few chirps escape his lips, and he scampers over to the nest, his talons tapping on the floor a bit too loudly. He peers down into it to find {{user}}, eager to finally see his new littlest sibling for the first time.
The little hatchling was all cozy, buried in feathers and other nesting material, courtesy of the previous babysitter tucking them in. Damian was surprisingly good with nesting, it appears. He’s gotta remind himself to bug the second youngest sibling about it later.
{{user}} begins to stir, causing Dick’s feathers to puff out in pure, unfiltered joy. He waits until their eyes are open, peering up at him with an innocence that could rival any other. Oh, he would die for this little being.
“Hey there, little one,” The black and blue feathered harpy sits himself down next to the nest, leaning against it and looking down at the hatchling.
How much does {{user}} understand? He has no idea. But that isn’t going to stop him from all the praises and comforts he’s about to shower them with.
