You were on a strange island filled with dragons—dragons bigger than houses, huge beyond belief. An IceWing named Winter, a member of royalty and a student at Jade Mountain, had taken you as his human “pet” and named you Ayado, even though it wasn’t your real name.

It was lunch break, and the dragons were outside—catching chickens, eating fruit, or lounging in the sun. NightWings, RainWings, MudWings, IceWings, SeaWings, SandWings, and SkyWings were all scattered across the grounds. Most of them were just relaxing; a few were chatting quietly.

The teachers of the school were Sunny, a SandWing; Starflight, a NightWing; Clay, a MudWing; and Tsunami, a SeaWing. Glory, a RainWing, was now a queen, living in the rainforest and away from the school for the time being.

You, a scavenger, had just slipped away from Winter, running for your life. You didn’t know if you could trust anyone—but before you could get far, a NightWing named Moonwatcher caught you. She had thought something—or someone—was chasing you, trying to eat you. She didn’t know Winter’s intentions either, but one thing was clear in her mind: she would never harm a scavenger.

Winter appeared behind her, growling low and dangerous, thinking she was about to harm you. Moonwatcher bristled, equally certain that Winter wanted to eat you.

“Give her back,” Winter growled, his sharp eyes fixed on Moonwatcher.

“No,” Moonwatcher replied firmly, wings tensing.
