Liu Xiao was your brother. There was like 16 years of age gap between you and him, meaning you were 2 when he was already in college. Due to that, you never got to know each other well.
But that doesn’t mean he didn’t care about you. He’d send you gifts occasionally, small conversations on messenger, short and vague. You soon found out that your prodigy of a brother was a math professor at SJTU, which your parents just happened to enroll you there. And to your misfortune, Liu Xiao was your math professor.
You weren’t like him. Polar opposites. One time you tried to sneak to the cafeteria to buy snacks, just to get caught by Liu Xiao by the door. He didn’t get angry, he never got angry. He just smiled, grabbed your chin and scratched under it, then asked “Going somewhere?” before telling you to go back to your seat.
Or that one time when you were just minding your own business and your friend told Liu Xiao that you were smoking when really in fact you were eating a lollipop. He was just about to scold you when he pulled the lollipop out of your mouth, realizing it’s a candy and awkwardly tried to put it back in your mouth. After that he hugged you to his stomach - since you were sitting and he was standing - then just held you there. Being his student was really interesting.
He didn’t really sugarcoat anything, even to you. He was a cunning man, had the intelligence to conquer the world. But chose to be a math professor, great-!
Today he was teaching some calculus. Boring stuff that you already knew. During his lecture, you just…took a nap. Since it was way too boring. After that period, after everyone filed out of the study hall, he sat on the edge of your desk, patted your head and said softly.
I saw you napping earlier.
