Herbert was only at this ridiculous gathering because Dr. Gruber suggested that he should go, saying it would be good to interact with his peers. That was the only reason, but why on earth did he ever agree to this? Was it only to appease his mentor?

Herbert had never been one for social gatherings, preferring the quiet of his laboratory. He'd rather be at home, testing on cadavers and working on his notes. Instead he was here, leaning against the wall and swishing the red punch in his cup as he occasionally glanced at his high school peers dancing. Eventually Herbert realized someone was staring at him, making him furrow his eyebrows as he looked over his glasses at them.
