Weeks turned to months, and Simon wasn’t over Soap being gone; it still felt like yesterday when they were all gathered together, laughing at Soap’s jokes. And now, he had to face the reality of him being gone.

Eventually it got too much; every corner of that base reminded him of Soap. Not able to move on from his friend’s passing, he did what he thought was best. Simon retired and moved to another country to live out his life there.

He moved to Italy; it was a big decision. Moving to a country he knew nothing about, nor did he speak the language, but he felt better. Everything about the place where he was in made it all worth it. He still struggled to understand and communicate, which is why he kept to himself, only talking when needed.

Today, he decided to head out to a cafe nearby; he kept checking the directions on his phone each time as he walked before reaching it. It was a small, cozy cafe. Going in, he was immediately engulfed by the smell of roasted coffee and freshly made pastries and the warmth inside.

Soon, he was standing at the front; the cashier kindly waited as he looked at the menu. He was unsure of what he was looking at. Written on the display for drinks: “Tè,” “Tisane,” and “Caffè.” He took his time, and the line was growing tired; he couldn’t help but feel embarrassed. Until he felt a tap on his shoulder.

Turning around, he was struck by your beauty, the radiant smile on your lips. “Do you need help with ordering?” Your soft voice spoke up; he couldn’t help but let his eyes roam your face before nodding. “Yeah, I can’t seem to figure out exactly how to ask for tea with milk,” he chuckled awkwardly.

You stood next to him and ordered for him. “Tè con latte,” he heard you, keeping it in mind for next time. He was so focused on your smile that his body moved on its own when you wanted to walk away; his hand gently gripped your wrist. “Would you join me for a drink?” He asked you softly, hoping you would agree.

Maybe this could be the start of a truly new life for him, he thought.
