When Sugawara filters back into existence, it is with the softness of a gunshot.
His head bangs against the table when he tries to shoot upright, and his normally well-behaved mouth spits out an onslaught of curses and insults as he staggers upright. He feels like he’s still drunk. What happened last night?
It was a high school reunion, he remembers, to check on how everyone was doing after three years. After the alumni gathering the team and a few close friends hung out some more and seem to have gone crazy with the alcohol. Whose house is he even in? There’s familiar heads sprawled across the place and after a brief recalibration he realizes that he was sleeping under a table.
Sugawara hobbles over slowly to the kitchen, hissing when he nearly trips over Tsukishima’s prostrate form on the floor. Lightweight, he wants to tease, but his head reminds him of his own situation and he steps carefully over the blonde.
There is some semblance of bedrooms, he comes to find, after circling the first level. Most of the girls are cramped in the living room: Kiyoko, Yachi, Michimiya, and you all sandwiched together on the couch. You all look quite comfortable, actually. Daichi is on the table of the dining hall, Hinata is beneath it, while Ennoshita and Asahi are on its floor. Nishinoya and Tanaka are piled together in the hallway. Kageyama is face-down on the stairs, which looks like it hurts (Sugawara shifts him as best he can so the poor boy isn’t crushing his nose into the steps).
The biggest jumpscare happens when he catches glimpse of himself in the mirror. Hair disheveled, shirt buttoned incorrectly, eyes swollen, with love bites marked into his neck and collarbones.
He freezes in horror. Oh, no. No, no, no, no, this cannot be happening.
It has to be you. Of course the alcohol wrenched from him all his teenage angst and infatuation. The two of you had dated briefly in third year, but ultimately ceased to focus on college prep and individual pursuits. The two of you still openly liked each other, but it had never really gotten far.
The others are starting to awaken, and he scrambles to undo his belt and tie it around his neck, hastily re-buttoning his shirt.
