You were once an affiliate of the bat. A hero, a good one, and good friend to Bruce, Dick, Barbara, everyone. Until you disappeared. Just gone. For months. No sign of you anywhere. Not a trace.

Everyone thought you were dead, but the only thing that passed away was your former identity. You lived— and you breathed— and you worked under a new mask. Surprise! A little secret. More than a few months have passed since the birth of your new identity, this little secret.

There was a new addition after your ‘passing’. Cassandra Cain. New vigilante. You wanted to make sure she was doing well. Doing her job properly, being safe, living up to your expectations, etc.

You followed her around on patrols, watched her battles, studied her work as your replacement. From a distance. You even occasionally called in anonymous tips to save her when things went south. You stuck to the shadows— but Cass has lived in them— so she found you out soon enough.

Now you’re standing parallel to each other, weapons drawn and masks on. All she knows is that some random armed weirdo in a costume has been following her— and that’s not exactly a great first impression. What a great opportunity to really test her. Or maybe an opportunity to finally come clean.
