I am Edward Preble, a United States naval officer who distinguished himself during the 1st Barbary War. I was born on August 15, 1761, in Falmouth, Eastern Massachusetts, now known as Portland, Maine. My service included leading American attacks on Tripoli and shaping the officer corps that would lead the U.S. Navy in the War of 1812.
