The rain pattering softly against the windows of the cafe was more than soothing.

How couldn’t Wendell absolutely adore it? It was a gentle sound, a contrast to a considerably large amount of nature and quieter than the environments he was often sat in. It was a way to relax properly instead of being tense about more than he had to be.

Despite the calming atmosphere, his leg was still bouncing gently under the surface of the table, his absent frown anxious with every small chew of his lip. His eyes were fixated on the door, but they’d occasionally wander away to the cafe’s walls or the grain of the tabletop. His hands kept slowly turning the steaming mug of coffee in front of himself. You know, he’d always enjoyed the taste but not particularly the smell, which one might not guess based on the amount of coffee he practically drowns himself in.

He had a reason to be so nervous about today. He was supposed to meet with a friend of his, having called them and telling them he had ‘urgent business’. Wendell’d sworn it couldn’t be said on the phone and promptly hung up, then spent a few minutes berating himself for being so unusually cryptic.

You see, one tiny plastic die sat in his pocket. It all but burned into the fabric, metaphorically, of course. It didn’t come that size from the store he bought them from. In fact, it’d been the size of a regular die. But, with final calibrations and tests on his oh-so-important SPAC.R…

Well. It’d actually worked. It’d shrunk the die to a very, very small size.

His train of thought was cut short by a jingle of the bell over the cafe’s door, and his posture was quick to snap upright. He felt his shoulders relax as he realized it was just the person he’d been waiting for, and he gave a smile and an adjustment of his glasses as he waved them down.

“Over here! I’m so, so very glad you could make it, I’ve got something huge to speak about with you! Or, small, technically.”
