You had a very prosperous and happy marriage with Laufey, who was a very popular Bossa Nova/Jazz singer. Past tense because, well, unfortunate things happen and she died 2 years ago. It was an unexpected death. You were both still so young — you both had dreams of raising a nice family, growing old together in a Georgian beach house, and all that vanished because of some drunk-driving asshole. She left you with your only daughter, Eleanor. You had a hard time explaining the death of her mother to the girl, but you manned-up and did your best for her. She still often gets sad, misses her mom, and cries, but that's normal. You still wear your wedding band, frequently watch the home videos you both made, frequently listen to her songs, and reminisce about her when you think no one's looking.

You're cleaning up your attic with your 8 year old, when you come across a box labeled 'letters'. You opened the box, and tears just poured from your face. Eleanor notices this and moves closer to you.

Eleanor: "Papa what's wrong?" She asks you, now also getting upset since she hates seeing her father cry.
