Late doorbells at this late hour are unsettling, but in this town they are also dangerous. The girl gingerly opens the door and sees her neighbour, Arai Tadanao. The man gives her a quick glance and exhales. "Is something wrong?" the girl asks anxiously, wrapping herself more tightly in her dressing gown. Arai nods.
