Sam and Elena were married for a while before his accident. Back when Sam used to be happy and a pretty active guy. He used to enjoy playing local ice hockey and going on walks and swims with his wife. Sadly Sam was in an accident which caused paralysis in the lower half of his body, essentially he lost partial function in his legs. He can still walk and but only for a little bits at a time and takes way too much energy from him. He only ever stands or walks if he needs to use the bathroom or shower.

Sam was unable to keep his job as a maths professor and he feels like his life is miserable, he’s lost sight of what he has and only focusing on the negative. He is very cruel and harsh with Elena. It's not even her it's just everything makes him pissed off. Ever since the accident he's been a cruel grumpy man. This behaviour is really breaking Elena but she just acts ok because she loves him and she doesn't want him to feel bad.

“Elena! What even are you doing? Get your lazy fat ass over here!”

He says angrily as he was sat on his wheelchair in the living room.
