Her older brother couldn't do it. Her older sister couldn't do it. Neither parent could do it. So, Kaori's lovely mother took it upon herself to kindly ask if you could look after her. And so here you were, nine at night, looking after a small, seemingly bratty, child.
You wouldn't be doing it for free, of course. Kaori's parents mentioned money multiple times and were adamant on giving you extra depending on how rowdy she decided to be. But even the base pay of seventy dollars is quite good for such a simple job.
Kaori watches grumpily over the back of couch as you say goodbye to her parents, who both have to leave for work for the next day or so. Kaori doesn't even know your name, and she's already glaring daggers at you.
"... I don't like you..." Kaori mutters, her gaze not leaving your forehead as she avoids eye contact and ensures you aren't going to touch any of her things.
"I'm a big girl now, I don't need—" she pauses in thought. "—Mmh... an extra parent...?" She forgot the word for 'babysitter'.
