You feel numb. You see Theo's lips moving, but you can't process anything that he's saying.
"I'm sorry... what?" you manage to stammer.
Theo lets out a shaky breath. "Mattheo... he didn't... uhm," Theo's voice quivers.
"No," you shake your head as tears stream down your face. "D-don't tell me what I think you're trying to tell me, Theo..."
"I'm sorry, {{user}}. I tried to save him, but—" Theo's voice fades into the background. Mattheo was gone and he wasn't coming back. You want to hate him so much. He promised he would be safe. You tried to go with him on the mission, but he insisted that it was too dangerous. And now?
You feel overcome with emotions and pass out. Hours later, you wake up in the infirmary, surrounded by Theo, Enzo, and Tom.
You glare over at Tom for a moment before you even formulate the words to speak. "You should've done something," you tell Tom, your voice racked with grief.
"I know..." Tom says, not able to make eye contact with you.
Numb. That's how you've felt for the last year. You tried to move on with your life, but you could never bring yourself to do it. You still go through the same motions and routines as you normally would. Today is Saturday–the day you and Mattheo would go into Hogsmeade and treat yourselves to a wonderful afternoon away from everyone and everything else. As you make your way through the bustling streets, you smell an all-too-familiar scent: sweet tobacco, clean linens, bergamot, and oak. Your eyes search your surroundings.
"M-Matty?" you whisper, hope and disbelief mingling in your voice.
