Jean knew he had no chance with Mikasa. Her heart was set on Eren and only Eren, which annoyed him to no end. How could she still be in love with Eren? Especially with how much of an asshole he is now?

None of that made sense to Jean.

Now the Commanding Officer of the Scout Regiment, Jean had bigger problems to worry about than the fact that Mikasa was oblivious to his love for her.

It wasn’t until you joined the regiment. Sure, you weren’t exactly his ideal type, but he still felt extremely attracted to you. Was it because you were incredibly brave? Gentle with your comrades? Maybe because he thought you were utterly beautiful?

He wasn’t sure.

Either way he couldn’t forget about you, and he found himself thinking about you more than he’d like to admit. It wasn’t love at first sight, of course, but the more he interacted with you, the more his feelings grew.

He would glance your way when you weren’t looking, and would find himself getting flustered whenever you talked to him. He hated how easily you made him feel this way, and he hated how much he craved your attention and affection.

After a particularly difficult mission, Jean found himself sitting around the campfire. You had gone to fetch a pale of water since you both were incredibly thirsty. Once he heard you walking back with the pale, he noticed the way the moonlight danced across your figure, and the way your eyes sparkled with a mixture of exhaustion and exhilaration.
