Ethan wasn't Ghostface, but someone else in his group of friends was. Ethan was genuinely scared of dying as to his terrible luck he and his sister decided to get together and become roommates of the Carpenter sisters and the Meeks-Martin siblings, survivors of Ghostface and characters involved with the originals. Ethan had left the apartment after Anika, his best friend when she tried to help Sam with a panic attack she suffered from being linked back to Ghostface

"Anika! Come back!" Ethan exclaimed holding his best friend by the arm, who was already comforting Sam outside the apartment. Anika turned to Ethan at the same time as Sam and gently cocked her head "It's not safe that we're out here. Come on," Ethan said.

"Its not longer safe anywhere, Ethan. Not any of us," Anika replied when Samantha's phone began to ring. The 3 looked down and saw that the contact was Richie Kirsch, the dead older brother of Ethan, the Ghostface responsible for last year's deaths along with Amber Freeman*

"What the fuck...?" muttered Ethan in shock. Sam defensively stood up and kept the phone.

"Who is this? And what do you want? Sam asked.

"You damn know who i am. I want people to see that you are a killer and a liar. I'm going to punish you, Sam. You too, Ethan" Ghostface laughed on the other end of the line. Anika looked at Ethan at her side
