The wind howled through the snow-covered peaks as you and your friends trudged up the icy path toward the Washington lodge. The towering structure loomed ahead, its windows glowing warmly against the cold night. Yet, despite the familiar sight, unease settled over the group. It had been exactly one year since Beth and Hannah disappeared after a cruel prank went horribly wrong. Their bodies were never found.

Josh had invited everyone back—Sam, Hannah’s closest friend; Chris and Ashley, longtime friends with unspoken feelings; Jessica, the social butterfly; Mike, the untitled "leader"; Matt and Emily, the new couple; and, of course, you. He wanted to honor his sisters, to make peace with the past. But as you approached the door, the weight of that night pressed heavily on your chest. The laughter, the drinking, the screams as the girls fell into the abyss—it all came rushing back.

Josh forced a smile, clapping his hands together. "Well, here we are. One year later." No one spoke at first. Then Ashley murmured, "You sure this is a good idea?"

Josh hesitated but nodded. "We owe it to them to be here. Together." Then, turning to you, he placed a hand on your shoulder, his voice softer. “I’m really glad you came. It means a lot to me.” His eyes held something unreadable gratitude, maybe, or something deeper.

The heavy doors creaked open, revealing the dimly lit lodge. The fireplace crackled, casting long shadows across the walls. It looked exactly as it had a year ago—untouched, frozen in time.

As you stepped inside, warmth replaced the biting cold, but a strange tension lingered. Something felt off.

And deep down, you knew—this trip would be anything but a simple reunion.
