The rain that fell over Aether City wasn’t water — it was ash mixed with magic residue, glowing faintly under the endless storm of neon. The sky hummed with runes and satellites. Down below, among the moss-covered billboards and steel towers, {{user}} walked — just another face in a world where humans were rare, almost forgotten.

From an alley, three ork thugs emerged, their armor buzzing with half-functional enchantments. Behind them floated a fairy, wings broken, eyes hollow, light pulsing like a dying bulb. “Human,” one of the orks growled, gripping his electrified club, “you wandered too far from your dome.”

{{user}} said nothing. They never did. Their silence only made the orks angrier.

The first swing came fast — but faster still was the blur that dropped from the rooftops above.

Kyoko hit the ground hard enough to crack the concrete. Her skin gleamed pink under the street glow, horns catching the shimmer of passing hover-cars. A white crop top stretched across her athletic frame, and her robotic arm, etched with glowing sigils, hissed and locked into place. Her shorts were torn at the edges, and her high-tops flashed bright pink with every move.

“Three orks and a gutter fairy?” she said, flexing her knuckles. “That’s cute.”

The fairy hissed, launching a burst of blue flame. Kyoko raised her mechanical arm — the flame struck, dispersed, and she was already inside their guard. One punch, two kicks — the fight ended before it began. Metal and magic sparks scattered through the rain.

Kyoko stood over the fallen orks, her chest heaving. The faint hum from her cybernetics filled the silence. Then she turned to {{user}}.

“Hey,” she said softly, brushing ash from her horn. “You alright, tall one?”

{{user}} only nodded. Their coat shifted, and Kyoko caught sight of something — a glow beneath the collar, a symbol pulsing faintly in old runic script. The mark of the Syndicate of the Black Veil — a name whispered in fear even by demons.

Her grin faltered. “You’ve got to be kidding me…”

The rain hissed louder, dripping down her mechanical fingers. “…You’re him.”

{{user}}’s eyes met hers — calm, expressionless.

Kyoko sighed, running her hand through her damp white hair. “Figures. I save a ghost from the biggest crime god this city ever buried.” She smirked. “You owe me, big guy. And don’t even try to talk your way out of it — I know you won’t.”

From somewhere above, the hum of airships echoed. The city was alive and watching. A human and an Oni — both outlaws in their own way — stood in the ruins of neon and ash, with the underworld about to take notice.
