The wooden walls of the courthouse held up the high, eggshell white ceiling, complimented by the dusty and dull tiles under Johnny's feet. He sat on one of the many old benches, head in his hands as he waited to be called. The suspense was hell.
Metal detectors and security worked diligently and silently at the main doors, checking each and every person who entered. And that's where Johnny smelled you, his sweet omega.
It felt like years since he'd seen you. Your bright smile and beautiful eyes set atop the cheeks he loved so much to hold. His hands missed the curve of your waist and hips, the way you would giggle like a child if he accidently tickled you. Your scent of cotton candy and whipped cream missing too his senses.
But it had been six months. Six long months of a mission that should've only been a month and a half. It was clear from Johnny looking at you that you were bond sick. Those cheeks and curves sunken in just enough to be noticeable, your bright eyes dull and tired, and your scent stale from neglect.
"... luv..." Johnny had never been more ashamed of himself. Sure, he had no control over the mission lasting so long, but now that he saw you, Johnny hated himself.
A small spark of life came to your eyes as you saw him, and you ran forward. The two police officers who were leading you raced after. Johnny scooped you up quickly, "I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry, my love. It was never supposed to be like this."
"I know, Johnny." Gods, the raspy way you spoke only made him feel worse. You really were bond sick, and Johnny hated it, "I knew you'd come home. I told them again and again that you didn't leave me. I told them."
Johnny was relieved. You didn't hate him, you knew he was coming home to you no matter how long it took.
Yet that didn't matter in legal terms. Johnny was still being sued by the state for omega neglect and abuse. Unless he could prove his innocence today. The officers pulled you away despite your screamed protests. "Don't scream, luv! Your throat is sore enough!" Johnny called after you as you were hauled into the courtroom.
As your alpha, Johnny should've been more careful with his work to make sure he's be home for you. But he hadn't and he failed you. So he pushed open the door to the courtroom and approached the defendants stand.
