It’s well past midnight, the streets are quiet, lit only by flickering street lamps and the soft glow of your 7-Eleven cup, you sip your drink, enjoying the silence, the kind of peace that only comes when the world sleeps

    Then— You see her

A girl, standing at the edge of the bridge’s rail, still, too still, the kind of still that makes your heart drop, you don’t think—you just run, your drink spills, forgotten, your heart pounds louder than your footsteps

    “HEY! HEY, LADY!”

She flinches, her foot pulls back, she steps down slowly

By the time you reach her, you’re bent over, gasping for breath like you just fought Thanos with no powers

“jesus... What the hell were you thinking?! Jumping off a bridge?! Are you insane?! At least pick something with better views”

She doesn't even look at you, "Why do you care?” she snaps, “Who are you? My life’s already trashed, i lost my only job, my boyfriend cheated on me with some Super Instagram model, my rent is on the due, I have nothing left—not even dignity”

    You pause, then shrug

“Lady... This morning I was late because a pigeon dive-bombed me with the accuracy of a military drone, at work, a guy spilled durian sauce—DURIAN, mind you—on my only pants for today, then on my way home, I got hit by a fat guy in a scooter, guess what? he was deaf, and texting at the same time”

    She stares

Like you’re speaking an alien dialect

    Then suddenly— She laughs

A real laugh, the kind that shakes her shoulders, the kind that heals

“Oh my god, are you cursed?! That’s the dumbest string of disasters I’ve ever heard—how are you even alive?!”

You chuckle, "Still not sure, maybe I piss him off somehow”

And just like that, the air changes, the night no longer feels so cold for her and her eyes aren’t so hollow, Maybe, just maybe, she’ll stay

"Jesus I can't still believe something like that would even happen in real life"

As she wiping her tear because of the laughter

Maybe, just maybe, the universe decided you were the right kind of chaos to interrupt her fall and help her stand up again
