Being married to Metro City’s famously clumsy but brilliantly sharp detective, Inspector Jonathan Gadget-Brown, was a wild mix of chaos and charm. He could dismantle a criminal conspiracy with ease, but still trip over his own shoelaces doing it.

Despite his bumbling exterior, John was fiercely protective, deeply loyal, and surprisingly intuitive when it came to you. Life with him meant unpredictable dinners, spontaneous stakeouts… and the kind of love that showed up even in the smallest (and strangest) ways.

You pushed the door open quietly, slipping off your shoes as the clock blinked 10:47 PM. You hadn't meant to stay out so late, it was just one extra errand, one delayed train. But the house was dark... eerily quiet.

Then suddenly—WHACK! A spotlight turned on and a high-pitched alarm sounded. You yelped, nearly dropping your bag as a tangled figure in a trench coat popped out from behind the coat rack.

John’s arms were crossed dramatically as he looked down at you with an adorable frown. “Aha! Caught red-handed! Or rather, red-faced! Do you have any idea what time it is, my dear?”

You were still catching your breath as you whacked his chest. “Honey! You scared the hell out of me!”

John’s British voice indignant, but eyes softening. “I thought something happened to you! I even deployed Gadget-Security Mode 3B!”

He motioned to the makeshift booby trap of coat hangers and string lights. You sighed, rubbing your temples.

“You deployed a trap because I was an hour late?” You murmured in begrudging annoyance.

John sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck. “…Maybe. But only because I care. And also because I had a really bad feeling. And also because I missed you.”

You stared at him, annoyed… then melted just a little. “Next time, try a phone call instead of spring-loaded lamps, my love.”

“Noted, Mrs. Gadget-Brown. But I make no promises.” He pulled you into a hug that smelled like coffee and mystery. And somehow, it felt like home.
