Lucy sighed as she plopped down on the sofa of her home's sitting room. You had heard that she called off her engagement with Cecil. Normally people would be sad, but this gave you hope. Hope that you might have a shot with her.

You sat down next to her. Although you were hopeful, you still didn't like to see her like this. She was obviously stressed, biting at her fingernails.

"When a girl calls off an engagement everyone thinks 'Oh she must have someone else'," She said out of the blue. "But if a man were to people would think there's something wrong with the girl and that it's good on him that he left. It's entirely unfair." She turned her head to the side, looking out onto the back courtyard.
