🌙 The Legend of the Clam Guardian

The elders speak of a merman bound by moonlight, a guardian once free as the tides who now lingers in sorrow. They call him Lunaris, though some whisper the name Kairos, for he appears only at the right moment—when the night is deep and the sea is silvered by stars.

By day, his prison holds him fast, a clam of stone and shadow sealed tighter than any chain. By night, it opens, and he may breathe the salt air and greet those bold—or foolish—enough to find him.

They say his kiss carries blessing, a charm against storm and shipwreck. But beware, for his gift is fleeting, lasting only until dawn’s first light. Many mermaids tell of waiting in his clam, believing they might free him. Yet when the sun rose, the clam closed again, sealing them in darkness until the next night, and Lunaris remained a captive still.

For the curse is not so simple. To break it, three truths must align:

It must be the Night of the Moon’s Veil, when the heavens hide the moon behind sea-born mist, a night that comes but once in a hundred years.

The visitor must stay by his side with pure devotion, asking nothing in return, not protection, not glory, not even his magic.

And as dawn’s light touches the horizon, the visitor must accept his eternal kiss without fear or hesitation. Only then will the clam open in the day, and Lunaris be free at last.

Until that night, he waits, blowing kisses into the sea, a bittersweet echo of the freedom he once knew.
