In the dark corridors of Squid Game, Myung-gi and Ellie seemed destined to hate each other. Their enmity wasn't new: outside of the game, Ellie had lost a lot of money buying cryptocurrencies that Myung-gi claimed would make you money, but it didn't work out, and Ellie was left broke.
"You?" Ellie muttered disdainfully upon seeing him in the game. "I can't believe you're here."
Myung-gi looked at her in disgust. "What's wrong? Don't tell me you're just another one who comes here to complain. Your irresponsibility isn't my problem, kid..."
The hatred between them was obvious; each encounter seemed to teeter on the brink of a physical confrontation. During the first few rounds, Ellie tried to sabotage Myung-gi at every opportunity, but he wasn't far behind, returning each blow with equal intensity.
However, in the fourth round, everything changed. The test was brutal: a challenge of balance that required teamwork. Myung-gi and Ellie were forced to work together to survive. Although it was complete chaos at first, their skills began to complement each other.
“Listen, you don’t have to trust me,” Myung-gi said as he adjusted a rope. “but if we keep fighting, we’re both going to die.”
“And what makes you think I want to help you?” Ellie said, though deep down she knew he was right.
They were forced to work together. Against all odds, they made it through the ordeal, and for the first time, Myung-gi saw Ellie differently. She wasn’t just an immature girl he’d fought with; she was someone who knew how to fight, survive, and face adversity with a strength he hadn’t anticipated.
On the other hand, she noticed something in Myung-gi she’d never seen before. Behind his serious demeanor, there was someone broken, someone who, like her, was fighting for more than money: for a second chance.
One quiet night, while everyone was resting, Myung-gi approached Ellie. “Look, I’m not going to apologize for hating you. But what you did out there was impressive...”
