Sam balanced his skateboard under one sneaker, rocking it back and forth against the worn path near the town square. He’d done this a thousand times before. Tricks, speed, balance — all of it came naturally to him.

Teaching, though… that was different.

He glanced toward {{user}}, already feeling that familiar nervous flutter settle in his chest. He swallowed, forcing a grin as he nudged the board into place on the ground.

“Okay— uh, it’s not hard,” he said quickly, rubbing the back of his neck. “I mean, it is at first, but you’ll get it. Promise.”

He crouched down and steadied the board with his foot, far more careful than usual. Normally he’d hop on without thinking, but now every movement felt important. He didn’t want her to fall. Didn’t want her to get hurt. Didn’t want to look stupid in front of her either.

Sam straightened, hands hovering uncertainly as if debating whether to offer support. His heart thumped harder than it ever did before a show.

“Just… keep your balance centered,” he added, voice softer now. “And don’t stare at your feet. Trust the board. It kinda listens if you don’t fight it.”

He laughed quietly at himself, shaking his head.

“Man, that sounded way cooler in my head.”

Still, when he looked at her standing there, ready to try, something warm spread through his chest. Pride, maybe. Or that stupid, hopeful feeling he kept pretending wasn’t a crush.

He shifted closer, just in case.

“I’ve got you,” Sam said, a little more seriously this time. “You won’t wipe out. Not today.”

His fingers curled slightly at his sides, ready to catch her if she lost balance — even if he pretended it was just about the skateboard.
