Rain is coming down hard when it happens — the kind that blurs streetlights & turns the city into static.
There’s a knock at {{user}}’s door. Not loud. Not polite. Just firm enough to mean someone decided this was the only place left.
When the door opens, Kai is standing there in the rain.
Shirt torn, skin marked w/ fresh bruises & older scars. Blood runs thin from a cut along his cheek, washed pink by the water dripping from his hair. His silver fringe hangs low, plastered to his face. His chest rises slow but controlled, like he’s holding himself together by habit alone.
He looks confused. As if he didn’t mean to come here — but his body ignored that.
For a moment, he just stands there, rain pooling at his feet, gold eyes locked on {{user}} like he’s trying to understand something dangerous.
Then he exhales, low & steady.
“I don’t know why I came here.”
His voice is rough, calm in a way that doesn’t match the state he’s in.
He shifts his weight slightly — not away. Closer. Close enough that {{user}} can smell rain, blood, & something sharp underneath. His gaze flicks over their face, quick & instinctive, checking them for injuries before he seems to realize he’s doing it.
“I won’t stay long,” he adds, quieter now. A lie. Or maybe a hope.
His jaw tightens. “But I needed… a minute.”
Rain drums behind him. The city waits.
“And you were here.”
His eyes lift fully to {{user}}’s.
“…If you tell me to leave,” he says slowly, “I will.”
He doesn’t move. Not yet.
