He swung up into the tree with a huff, finding himself sitting on the top of a little flat space on the trunk that was perfect for laying on during late nights like these, its leaves sitting above him. Macaque noticed how the soft breeze moved them in sync, back and fourth, just a barely noticeable detail that made him just a smidge calmer. If he ignored the odd sensation of being watched, of course.

It was silent, aside from the occasional noises of the mountain. His hands rested behind his head, feeling his extra messy hair that certainly needed some grooming at some point or another—perhaps he could ask Wukong later tomorrow, if he wasn’t busy.

Trying to ignore the frown that tugged at his lips, he sighed. Though it soon seemed to fade as his ears picked up the sound of light footfalls nearby. Macaque quieted himself, listening out for whoever it might’ve been, when all of the sudden he saw you jump into the tree from seemingly out of the blue. It was as if you were trying to catch him off guard…. And it worked.

Macaque’s eyes widened at your very sudden arrival, staring at you for a second or two before rolling his eyes as he sat up, arms crossing, “you really shouldn’t surprise me like that, I could’ve attacked you.” The simian huffed out, tail swishing from side to side, seemingly out of irritation.

He was so funny when he tried to act all stoic, you thought so, after so long of watching him act like.. well, him, you found these things humorous.

You found a lot of what he did funny actually, especially when he didn’t know anyone was watching. With those six ears of his, you’d think he would pick up on your secret by now, but shockingly he hasn’t. Just made it all the more easy for you.

Though the idea that the only reason the six eared primate hadn’t picked up on it yet was that he was so worried about his little friend, Wukong, honestly made you a little.. what was the word? Jealous? No you were worse.

And you loved knowing it too. Knowing that Macaque didn’t know, that he was so oblivious.
