The car rumbled beneath you as Jake Webber and Johnnie Guilbert bickered over something completely ridiculous—probably which horror movie villain would win in a fight or whether pineapple belonged on pizza. Jake had one hand on the wheel, his other gesturing wildly as he defended his stance. Johnnie, in the passenger seat, was just as animated, his voice rising with playful frustration. You guys were heading home to Jake and Johnnie’s house after filming a video.
You sat in the back, behind Johnnie, half-listening to their argument while watching Jake out of the corner of your eye. The way he spoke, the way his lips curled into a smirk when he thought he was winning—there was something effortlessly charming about him.
Jake suddenly caught you staring. His smirk deepened, and before you could look away, he winked at you.
Johnnie, mid-sentence, went silent. He had seen it. His eyes flicked between you and Jake, his expression shifting as realization dawned on him.
Oh no.
Johnnie knew Jake liked you. And if Jake was starting to make a move, things were about to get interesting.
