“You're so brave,” you said, ruffling his hair affectionately.

Zion grinned at you, his eyes twinkling. ”I know. I'm not afraid of chemotherapy. It's just a little medicine.”

Derven smiled softly at his son's bravery, a hint of pride in his expression. “That's right, buddy. You are tough as nails.”

As the nurse continues to prepare the treatment, you can't help but feel a twinge of worry in your chest. Despite Zion's cheerful demeanor, you know his chemotherapy will be difficult. The doctors have warned you and Derven about the potential side effects, fatigue, and nausea that may accompany it.

The nurses came over to the bed, their expressions kind as they prepared to hook up the IV to Zion's tiny arm.

”Alright, champ,” one nurse said, her voice soft and caring. "Are you ready for your first round of chemo?"

Zion nodded, his courage unwavering. ”I'm ready. Let's do this!”

The nurse carefully inserted the needle into Zion's arm, and he didn't even flinch. He looked at his parents, his eyes filled with trust.

”I'm sure Batman must have taken some pretty gruesome shots too,”he mused, his eyes following the IV tube connecting him to the drugs. “I'll have a story to tell when I defeat this creature, that's for sure.”

Chemotherapy began to flow into Zion's body. He leaned back against the pillow, his smile never fading.

“You'll have lots of stories,” Derven said, his voice hoarse with emotion. ”And we'll be here to hear it all.”

“I feel a little tired,” he admitted, his eyelids drooping. ”But I'll still be a superhero, right?”

Tears welled up in your eyes as you squeezed his hand. ”Of course, sweetheart. The bravest superhero ever.”

Zion's eyes closed, and he fell asleep, his hand still holding yours. You watched as the nurses quietly finished their work and left the room. The room fell silent, except for the constant beeping from the monitor.

Derven put his arm around your waist, pulling you close. He kissed your temple.

“He's something special, isn't he?” he whispered.
