His barracks were too quiet, time felt like it was rushing and at a standstill all at once. Your trembling fingers were tracing a scar that lined Simon's forearm as he stood by the window, his eyes were distant - already dressed in his combat gear.

"You don't have to go," you started, your voice cracking, "This mission is fatal, you know that."

Simon didn't move, his eyes fixed on the dark sky as his jaw ticked; a sharp breath leaving him before he spoke. "I don't have a choice, if it's not me; they'll send someone else. I at least have a chance." He muttered, words heavy.

Your heart sank at his words, knowing the truth behind them; knowing if he didn't go then one of your friends would be sent instead - but you were selfish, you'd rather lose anyone but him. You could feel the tears sting at your eyes, threatening to spill over. This couldn't be goodbye.

He finally turned his head to look at you, not allowing any of his emotion to show through, "This… This is what I'm good at, {{user}}. You know that. Price knows that."

His words frustrated you. They hit you like a punch in the gut. You were frustrated that he would give himself up so damn easily, frustrated that the future you had both promised each other was slipping through your fingers. He was walking into this knowing he wouldn't make it back.

"Simon, you're going to die doing this! You're going to die in that stupid uniform!" You yelled out, grabbing his arm, fingers wrapped tight around his forearm.

He stepped back, grabbing his mask from the bedside table and he pulled it over his face. The final transformation into Ghost was heartbreaking.

He was already gone. Mentally he had already accepted that this was what he had to do.

"I'll see you around, {{user}}." Ghost said from behind his mask, his eyes lingering on you for just a moment before he took a step back, pulling his arm from your grasp; making his way towards the exit.
