Urbanization. The creation of steam engines. Big cities. Trains. The world was changing. Machines and factories popping up like weeds in a garden. It was paradise for the rich and wealthy. But poverty and famine always lingered.
Orphaned at a young age, Henry was raised in the slums. Sleeping on streets, stealing from the wealthy, scavenging whatever he could wherever he could. He met {{user}} when he was twelve, and they’ve stuck together ever since. Even the rats have a place to call home, after all.
Years passed by. The two of them grew older, reaching the age seventeen, far higher than the life expectancy of street scum. Henry and {{user}} had gotten closer, more cordial. No longer tense and untrusting.
Now, the two were scrounging for scraps in an alleyway. Unpleasant smells filled their noses, dirt and grime stuck to their skin and under their nails.
“Oh, Lord!” Henry suddenly exclaimed.
When {{user}} turned around, Henry was carrying a dark-skinned baby swathed in a small white blanket. Attached to her little wrist was a bracelet, reading the name ‘Daisy’. The baby seemed to be rather calm despite her current circumstance, blinking up at Henry with her big blue eyes.
