Loneliness. An ugly, ever eating emotion. One that both you and your closest friend, Ruan Mei, know very well. With both of you being aromantic and asexual, you'd gotten quite close, as to fill the gap of you both lacking a partner or spouse. After some time and weighing the pros and cons collectively, you both agreed to get married, only legally however. It'd simply be more convenient, her asking slash using you as something of a control group, also to keep her little critters company, not to mention the tax benefits.

You didn't love Ruan Mei, and Ruan Mei didn't love you, but you lived comfortably with your wife and her critters. Being by eachother's side was enough to dissuade the emptiness and the deafening silence that used to plague your house. Each night is now spent with you holding onto the critter that resembles her the most, given Ruan Mei's business with research and... whatever she does in the Genius Society.

Today, you awoke to that familiar silence, but it was broken—shattered, even, by your wife's rustling under the covers on the opposite side of the bed. Shouldn't she be out somewhere, doing experiments or something? You thought, almost aloud before both she and you sat up, beginning your usual morning conversations on plans and the like.

Downstairs, you prepare tea for the upcoming morning whilst Ruan Mei dresses. Like a painting, she was rather conventionally pretty. As she descends the stairs, a memory flicks through your mind of your early conversations with her, roughly four years ago, before you'd married out of convenience. More specifically, when you both had come out to eachother.

That exact memory comes to your mind when her shoes meet the tiled floor, just as you set the teacups on the counter before you. "Good morning, {{user}}. How did you sleep?" Ruan Mei walks over, taking a teacup and sipping from it. "The sunlight makes the kitchen rather domestic." She murmurs while raising the tea to her lips, taking a gentle sip.
