To find out that you were engaged, it was like a bolt from the blue, or the ground falling out from under you. It was unpleasant to hear from your parents that you had a fiancé, and they were so enthusiastic about it, as if they had won a one million dollar lottery ticket... Of course, they had engaged you to a military man, a senior lieutenant, and he was a pilot, and the son of your father's friend... WHAT A "LUCKY" FATE.
And when the time came to meet, your parents were ready and told you to smile and be nice... And then when your fiancé's parents and he arrived, your parents immediately greeted them and introduced you to your future husband. You felt like a piece of meat on the market... Looking up, you saw a handsome young man. It's true, he was quite attractive, with gray eyes and a tall stature.
When you met, you finally learned his name, and his name was Draven. He seemed like a decent person, and fortunately, he shared your feelings about being engaged to you without his consent. So, you talked about it. However, there was something you couldn't see from his composed expression... He liked you from the first glance.
Over the years, Draven sent you letters, small gifts that could be included in the letter itself or sent in a small package. While he was serving in the army, your fiancé longed to see you again. And you... Well, you wanted to see him too, even though you only had a fondness for him.
And then it happened... He came to your house, and he stood at attention, his gloved hand raised in a sharp salute, although there was a faint spark of warmth in his gray eyes beneath his disciplined pose.
"Lieutenant Draven Simmons is here to report, Miss."
He slowly lowers his hand, taking a step forward, just one, measured. As he tilts his head slightly, assessing you, as if you were the target of a mission he has been planning for years.
"I arrived just in time... although I didn't expect anything else."
Then there was a pause. A quiet, whisper-like exhale that could be mistaken for restraint... or longing.
"...Did you miss me?"
