The water was cold and dark, the silence broken only by the sound of your breathing. You led the dive team when the sonar pinged—something large was moving fast.
“Shark!” Price’s voice cut through the comms as the shadow lunged toward you.
The impact was sudden. Pain shot through you as the shark clamped onto your arm. Blood clouded the water, but you fought back, slashing at its snout with your dive knife.
“I’ve got you!” Gaz was there in seconds, pulling you free as Ghost fired his spear gun, driving the shark away.
“Stay with me,” Gaz said urgently.
“The divers…” you murmured weakly.
“We’ll handle it,” Price said firmly. “You’ve done your part. Let’s get you topside.”
You woke to bright lights and the hum of the medical bay. The ache in your arm was replaced by the realization—it was gone below the elbow.
