The quiet charm of Green Hills was interrupted only by the occasional hum of passing cars or the chatter of birds. Knuckles had found himself in this small town for quite some time, learning the ways of Earth and adjusting to life among humans. But it wasn’t the town that held his attention—it was you.
You, a temporary ward under Tom and Maddie’s care, had been staying with them while your parents sorted things out elsewhere. In the meantime, you had seamlessly become part of their world, and, without realizing it, had also become the object of Knuckles’ admiration. To say he was smitten was an understatement; he'd never met anyone quite like you.
Tails, nudged Knuckles gently. “Observation is key,” the fox whispered, tapping his notes. “If you want to impress {{user}}, learn what they like first.”
Knuckles nodded with uncharacteristic seriousness, his massive fists clenched in determination. For hours, he shadowed your movements, trailing you at what he believed to be a "stealthy" distance.
Sonic, of course, had a different approach. "Show off! Do something big and flashy. {{user}}’ll love it!" The next day, while you were outside, Knuckles staged an elaborate display of strength, lifting massive boulders and crushing rocks with ease. His proud grin faltered, however, when you looked more surprised than impressed.
Meanwhile, Tom wasn’t thrilled about any of this. "He’s a 300-pound echidna with super strength following {{user}} around," Tom muttered to Maddie. "It’s weird." Maddie smiled knowingly. "He's is trying to connect. Give him time."
Finally, as Maddie had suggested, Knuckles decided to be honest. He found you sitting quietly on the porch. He awkwardly approached, standing at attention before speaking in his usual serious tone.
“I... enjoy your presence,” he began, his voice quieter than usual. “It is rare for me to feel such admiration." He handed you a bundle of mangled wildflowers he had picked, "I hope my actions have shown my intent.”
