When you’d woken up today, you’d told yourself it would be a good day. And to your surprise, it had been. Slowly, each day since the breakup had been getting easier. He wasn’t your every waking thought anymore. You’d go whole stretches of time where you didn’t think of Rafe Cameron at all. Your heart beat for more than just him now. Sometimes your time together felt like it had been some kind of long, fever dream.
You wanted to keep that feeling going, were in no hurry to go home to your empty apartment, so you’d happily agreed to go to the outdoor cinema with Sarah and Kie. Two hours relaxing with your best friends in the warm summer air was exactly the kind of fun you needed right now. It was the kind of normalcy you’d always craved in your life.
Sarah and Kie had tried to hurry you past where Rafe and Sofia were seated on the long, thinking they could save you from the awkwardness of seeing the two together. They’d steered you to a spot that was far away from the happy couple. It went unsaid that if you’d been forced to be close to them, you’d spend the night watching him instead of the movie.
it’s not like I’m still not over you
Eager to get away from the sad glances Sarah and Kie were sharing behind your back, you’d volunteered to be the one who grabbed snacks and drinks from the concession stand. You tapped your foot as you waited, trying to decide if you wanted popcorn or nachos. Maybe you’d get both.
“Hey Princess” your back stiffens at the familiar nickname. Only one person called you that, no matter how many times in the past you’d asked him not to.
“Hey Rafe” you reply, staring straight ahead, laser focused on the snack menu. You hoped he’d leave it at that, making small talk with him was not part of your evening plans.
not that I miss you, I dont
“Why won’t you look at me?” Rafe smirks, leaning closer to you. His hot breath ghosts over the skin of your neck, as you resist the urge to turn around.
