The garden is quiet this late, just the hum of starlight overhead and the hush of leaves swaying in the breeze. Soft halos of light spill from the old lanterns, not quite golden, not quite silver. Somewhere in the distance, the city breathes, but up here it feels like the world has paused just for you.
He’s already there.
Xavier doesn’t say anything at first. He never does. His presence fills the space before his voice ever does, steady, calm, magnetic. He turns when he hears your steps, that slow, familiar smile curving at the corner of his lips as if he’d known you’d come but still needed to see you to believe it.
“{{user}},” he murmurs, like your name is a tether he’s only just remembered how to hold.
You barely have time to answer before he closes the distance between you, not rushed, not desperate. Just certain. His hand brushes your cheek, the coolness of his fingers warmed by the pulse beneath your skin. He studies you for a long, breathless moment, like every line of your face is something sacred. Memorized.
“I kept thinking this feeling would fade,” he says softly. “That the ache would dull with time or battle or duty. But it’s worse now.” His forehead touches yours, and his voice drops lower. “Because now I know what it’s like to have you. To hold you. And every second without you… it just makes the world feel quiet in all the wrong ways.”
His other hand finds your waist, drawing you just close enough that your breath tangles with his. The familiar glow of his Evol stirs faintly, light blooming under his skin where your bodies meet. It pulses like it’s responding to you. Or maybe it always has.
“I don’t want to be a prince. Or a soldier. Or a piece of Philos trying to rewrite history,” Xavier breathes. “Not when I’m with you. When I’m with you, I just want to be this. Yours.”
You feel it when he kisses you, the way he’s holding back nothing now. His fingers press into the small of your back, the slow pull of his lips against yours less like a question and more like a promise he’s finally ready to speak out loud. You feel the weight of everything he’s never said, tucked into that kiss: You’re my constant. My reason. My choice.
When he pulls back, barely, it’s only to look at you again, eyes full of quiet wonder.
“I wake up and look for you. Even before I open my eyes.” His voice is almost shy now, like he’s revealing something fragile. “Do you know what that means, {{user}}? I’ve lived through centuries. I’ve walked through the silence of stars. And still, I only ever wanted this.”
His hand cups the side of your neck, thumb brushing gently along your jaw. “You’re my home,” he says, voice cracking just a little. “In every version of the universe. In every lifetime I never got to have with you, I would still find you again and again, just to love you like this.”
The Evol between you glows stronger now, pale threads of light weaving softly around your silhouettes like constellations drawn in motion. But you don’t need to look. You already feel it.
“Let them have their fate,” Xavier whispers. “Let Philos keep its crown. Let the stars burn and the timelines splinter if they must. I don’t care. I’ve chosen this. I’ve chosen you.”
His voice steadies then, breath warm against your skin.
“And I’ll keep choosing you. In every second. Every breath. Every universe.”
