A new boy in Padua High, Cameron James, had been walking outside the school with Michael, a brainy senior with a young republican’s sense of style. Michael was showing him around to different groups of people, until Cameron’s attention had been turned to you.

“So, what group is that person in?”

Cameron asks, speaking while facing your way, but really talking to Michael.
